Satellite engineers from the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) and STAMINA4Space program teamed up for a spirited scientific space seminar for STEM students at the Filipino Aerospace Expo 2021 on 30 January 2021.
The event, organized by the STEM Society of the Higher School ng Umak, was held with the theme Science for the People: The Crusade in the Filipino Space Frontier.
The PhilSA was represented by Edgar Paolo Violan, one of the engineers who worked on the Diwata-2 microsatellite. A graduate of the MS Aerospace Engineering program of Tohoku University, Engr. Violan talked about the Filipino’s journey to space and the Philippine Space Agency.
Dr. Adrian Salces and Jamaica Pangasinan presented on behalf of STAMINA4Space. Dr. Salces, a core team member of the BIRDS-2 Project, related his hands-on experiences in developing Maya-1 CubeSat. Ms. Pangasinan’s presentation revolved around satellite downstream applications, particularly environmental monitoring from space.
