The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) invites all Senior High School (SHS) students to show off their space science knowledge through Patalasan sa #YamangKalawakan. 

Patalasan sa #YamangKalawakan is an ideation contest open to incoming/current SHS students from any public or private school in the Philippines. PhilSA is holding this nationwide competition to support and inspire space science and technology applications (SSTA) awareness among high school students. 

This contest shall consist of two rounds:

• Elimination round – each team will create and submit a 1-minute video on the given topic.

• Final round – the Top 9 finalists will meet for an in-person live competition on 10 August 2024, in Quezon City. It will be focused on the application of science concepts and developing solutions to problems involving SSTA.

Eligibility requirements 

• Each team must be composed of two (2) incoming/current Senior High School students, from the same High School,   

• One (1) coach from the same school must accompany them. PhilSA encourages gender-inclusivity in the team composition. 

• Relatives of PhilSA employees up to the 2nd degree of consanguinity and affinity are ineligible from joining the contest 

• Each school can send only one (1) entry to represent them. An endorsement letter signed by the school head shall be submitted with their application. Kindly note that substitution of contestants in the Final Round will only be allowed if the student is taking university entrance exams on the said date.

Mechanics for the Elimination Round 

1. The team shall submit a 1-minute video in Filipino or English that articulates the statement, “#YamangKalawakan ay Likas sa Ating Bagong Pilipinas.”
2. The submission should follow the following specifications:

• • At least 720p resolution, horizontal orientation 

• • Video must be uploaded on YouTube as “unlisted” with the link provided in the submission. 

• • All student members of the team must be present in the video, either simultaneously or sequentially.
    

3. The submission of video entries is until 21 July 2024.
   The participants shall be required to fill out a submission form and upload the YouTube link of their entries via this link: https://bit.ly/PatalasanYM
   

4. Upload a signed and scanned Declaration of Originality and Endorsement from the school head. The file shall be in PDF format. Use the following filename format:

               Region_School’s Division_School
               (Example: Region V_Catanduanes_Pandan National High School)

Criteria for Selection 

There shall be a total of nine (9) finalists which shall be composed of the following: 

• Three (3) teams from Luzon 

• Three (3) teams from Visayas 

• Three (3) teams from Mindanao
  

All qualified teams shall be entitled to the following: 

• Actual cost of transportation to and from Metro Manila (including airfare, ferry, and/or bus tickets) 

• Daily travel expenses 

Participants are advised not to incur any expenses until they have received formal confirmation of qualification to participate in the Final Round. 

Prizes*

• 1st place – 30,000 Php 

• 2nd place – 20,000 Php 

• 3rd place – 10,000 Php 

*Net of tax

The videos of the Top 9 finalists shall be posted on official PhilSA social media platforms, and the video with the most likes shall be given a special award as well.
