H.E. ENDO Kazuya, the new diplomatic head of mission of Japan to the Philippines, paid a courtesy visit to Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) Director General Joel Joseph S. Marciano, Jr. on 28 May 2024.
Accompanying him were Minister for Economic Affairs Mr. NIHEI Daisuke, Second Secretary Mr. KINOSHITA Akito, and Second Secretary Mr. MATSUSHIGE Tomoaki. Nicknamed “Kuya Kazuya,” the Japanese Ambassador’s visit apprised him of the current and ongoing initiatives on space science and technology applications (SSTA) in the Philippines.
In the meeting, PhilSA Director General Dr. Joel Marciano, Jr. demonstrated the current space capabilities of the Philippines and gave an overview on the space data value chain. Previous and ongoing space collaborations with Japanese organizations, such as Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Japanese universities were also presented.
PhilSA personnel who graduated from Japanese universities also shared their work in the upstream and downstream applications of space.
