On 10 February 2023, Director Ariel C. Blanco, Dr. Eng. presented the Health-related Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS in the Philippines during the 60th Scientific and Technical Sub-Committee (STSC) of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS).

His presentation mainly focused on development and application of remote sensing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science and other methodologies in producing space-enabled information to support the operations of various government agencies and other end users.

Dr. Blanco extensively discussed geohealth applications on geospatial analysis, modeling, and prediction on dengue including the various factors affecting the spatio-temporal prevalence of dengue cases in Quezon City.

Dr. Blanco likewise presented the challenges e.g., data availability and realization of value chain, as well as the various opportunities stemming from recognition of SST for health applications such as but not limited to networking and collaboration, and citizen science.
