Executive Summary

In its maiden year, The Philippine Space Agency, guided by R.A. 11363 also known as The Philippine Space Act, was able to set its organizational structure and human resources requirement in place. It fostered a slew of inter-agency, bilateral, and multilateral relationships that thrust the country into the orbit of space related exchanges, discussions, and activities.

Despite the challenges yielded by institutional birth pangs amid a pandemic, PhilSA implemented Space Science and Technology Applications (SSTA) activities that cumulatively affirmed the country’s participation in the space industry. These are designed to create value through the development and applications of space-oriented upstream and downstream technology products, processes, and services for the socioeconomic benefit of the Filipino nation.

PhilSA is exploring opportunities for space knowledge-based applications spanning connectivity, terrestrial and marine resources monitoring and protection, food security, urban and infrastructure planning, ground and space mobility, natural disaster risk reduction and mitigation, remote education and health management, national security, and even space based pandemic management support, among others.

This was a year of unprecedented challenges. Nonetheless, opportunities emerge through a swirl of uncertainty. PhilSA, and the men and women who represent and stand with it, are certain that when earthbound realities are viewed from the vantage point of space—possibilities become infinite.
