Radial acceleration relation of elliptical galaxies in MaNGA

Radial Acceleration Relation is the relationship between the total, and baryonic acceleration of a galaxy. The total acceleration is observed, while the baryonic acceleration is inferred through Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) and other models. In this study, physical properties of 88 elliptical galaxies were taken from SDSS-DR16 MaNGA, an online database which provides data of galaxies such as mass, size, redshift, and velocity.

Simple models are used, and are compared against other models from literature, to see if there is a fundamental constant in nature in which separates the dynamics of galaxies from standard Newtonian regime to MOND regime. Based on the results, it could be argued that elliptical galaxies are dynamically different from spiral galaxies, and that low mass galaxies have more dark matter compared to high mass galaxies.
