The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) is in solidarity with the entire community of gender equality and women empowerment advocates in celebrating the 2022 National Women’s Month and the International Women’s Day (IWD). PhilSA marked the occasion during its virtual flag raising ceremony, “Cosmickapihan,” on 07 March 2022. The all-women cast of Lupang Hinirang produced by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) was used in the virtual flag raising. The program also featured video presentations and knowledge sharing sessions to raise awareness of PhilSA staff on the history of Women’s Month and International Women’s Day, and the importance of equal and equitable access to educational and career opportunities for women and girls as a way to empower them to pursue paths in Science, Technology, Engineering, The Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).
PhilSA has been actively advocating inclusivity in the field of Space Science and Technology Applications (SSTA), pointing out the tremendous value of diversity in driving innovation. During the 2021 World Space Week, themed “Women In Space,” PhilSA had virtual events and partnerships to inspire and empower the younger generation with stories of accomplished women in STEAM. The Agency’s first institutional video likewise seeks to inspire women and girls to consider SSTA and working with PhilSA in their future dreams.
For the rest of the month, PhilSA will engage in online advocacy in line with the 2022 IWD theme, #BreakTheBias. Here are some officials and staff of PhilSA on what they have to say about breaking gender biases and making change work for women:
