Philippine Space Week

Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. declared every 08 to 14 August as Philippine Space Week through Proclamation No. 302 (s. 2023). This annual observance aims to promote space awareness, highlight the contribution of Filipinos worldwide in the field of space science, and espouse the value, benefits, and impacts of space science and technology applications (SSTA) on the lives of Filipinos. The celebration also serves as an occasion to recognize the contributions of Filipinos here and abroad in advancing scientific knowhow, technological innovation, policy, and cooperation for the peaceful, responsible, and sustainable uses of outer space.

The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) leads the nationwide observance of Philippine Space Week and promotes active participation in the various activities during the week-long celebration.

The 2024 Philippine Space Week Theme: #YamangKalawakan ay Likas sa Ating Bagong Pilipinas
“#YamangKalawakan ay Likas sa Ating Bagong Pilipinas”, the theme of Philippine Space Week 2024, underscores the important and inherent role that SSTA plays in building a modern, peaceful, resilient, and prosperous Philippines. Through a vibrant domestic space ecosystem, we can fortify national security, bolster socioeconomic development and productivity, enhance hazard management and climate change resilience, advance scientific knowhow, strengthen industrial capabilities, build and sustain a knowledge workforce, and secure the country’s role in promoting global understanding and international cooperation. Thus, #YamangKalawakan responds to the call of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. for national transformation that serves the people.

#YamangKalawakan
#YamangKalawakan, literally "space riches", figuratively refers to the collective resources and capacity of our people and institutions, infrastructure and environment, policies, and the wealth of opportunities they enable and which our country can harness to support and sustain socioeconomic progress and prosperity.
The Philippine Space Week Logo

The Philippine Space Week logo depicts “biyahe” or journey. It is inspired by the iconic signboards displayed on windshields of jeepneys and other public conveyance that indicate routes and destinations. Hand painted by local crafters, these iconographies are a staple in Filipino society and culture.

For commuters, the signboards serve as a guide. Lost in the busy streets of the Metro? Simply look for the route you're familiar with so you can continue your journey. Unfamiliar with provincial places as a tourist? Check out the signboard to see if the vehicle is heading to your destination and you're all set!

Like these signboards, satellites orbiting in space guide and enable us, whether it's for navigation, communication, or observing our planet.

The Philippine Space Week logo includes space-related visuals such as circles to represent various heavenly bodies, a satellite, stars, a rocket takeoff, and an orbit. Colors are drawn from the Philippine flag with the black background to denote the vastness of space.

The Philippine Space Week logo thus serves as a call for Filipinos everywhere to come together and get onboard the collective journey of building a space-capable and spacefaring nation that harnesses #YamangKalawakan, towards the common destination of a nation bridged, uplifted and empowered through the peaceful uses of outer space.
