The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) signed a release agreement with the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) for the global release of “Si Tala at ang Kanyang Lakbay Kalawakan! (Tala’s Journey Through Space)”, a children’s activity book introducing young readers to the peaceful and responsible use of outer space.
The signing, held on March 13 during the ASEAN Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and Space Traffic Management (STM) Workshop, highlights the growing importance of global and regional cooperation for the safety and long-term sustainability of the space environment, in line with the ASEAN theme “Navigating Our Future, Together.”
This is a concrete follow through to UNOOSA Director Aarti Holla-Maini’s announcement of plans to translate the book into all six official UN languages—Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish—at the 64th session of the Legal Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (LSC-UN COPUOS) in Vienna, Austria last year.
Through Tala’s adventure, children discover the principles and treaties that guide how countries explore and share outer space, reminding us that the future of space depends on cooperation here on Earth.
