The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) and the University of the Philippines Diliman – College of Engineering (UPD-COE), through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), have formalized a partnership to establish a Student Internship Program (SIP) between the two institutions.

This collaboration aims to provide UPD-COE students with practical experience in space science, engineering, and related fields. Through the SIP, qualified students may undertake office practice, internship, or on-the-job training at PhilSA, in accordance with CHED circulars, applicable laws, and mutually agreed upon rules and regulations.

PhilSA Ad Interim Director General Dr. Gay Jane Perez and UPD Chancellor Atty. Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II signed the agreement, together with PhilSA Deputy Director General for Space Science and Technology Dr. Marc Caesar Talampas and UPD-COE Dean Dr. Maria Antonia Tanchuling as their respective witnesses.

“Through this agreement, we open more opportunities for students from the UP College of Engineering to engage directly with our national space program through this internship. But more than training, this is an invitation to seek, to contribute, and to be part of something bigger than themselves. We hope this becomes a pathway, not only to careers but to a deeper pursuit of knowledge, eventually leading to graduate studies, and to research and innovation in space science and technology and its applications,” said Dr. Perez.

As the central government agency responsible for all national issues and activities related to space science and technology and its applications, part of PhilSA’s mandate is to help build a pool of trained space scientists, engineers, and communicators that will be critical to the country’s future space program. Building on this partnership, PhilSA and UPD are now exploring further areas of collaboration, including space engineering, science, health, biology, food systems, artificial intelligence, and other emerging fields.
