The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) is now ISO 9001:2015 certified. This achievement, announced as part of this year’s Philippine Space Week celebration, affirms that PhilSA’s quality management systems meet globally recognized standards, reinforcing its commitment to operational excellence and institutional integrity.

PhilSA Director General Joel Joseph Marciano, Jr. Ph.D., recognized the achievement as a testament to the Agency’s commitment to efficiency, innovation, and quality management.

“Behind every space mission is a collaborative effort spanning multiple teams, disciplines, systems, and processes. This certification shows our dedication to building national space capabilities the right way—grounded in teamwork, lifelong learning, and continuous improvement,” DG Marciano said. “Building out from the pandemic taught us to be self-starters and instilled a greater sense of urgency. Therefore, for a youthful Agency like PhilSA, achieving this milestone is especially meaningful because it demonstrates a growth mindset and the preparedness needed to face the challenges of transforming our infant space ecosystem to a more mature one,” he added.

The certification follows PhilSA’s successful Stage 2 External Quality Audit conducted on 22–23 May 2025, facilitated through the Agency’s participation in the Development Academy of the Philippines’ (DAP) Government Quality Management Program (GQMP). This collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding in 2023, enabled PhilSA to undertake capacity-building activities that led to the establishment of its Quality Management System (QMS) focused on continuous service improvement.

The ISO 9001:2015 certification marks a significant step in institutionalizing quality management and accountability within the Agency as it fulfills its mandate to lead the national space program in line with the Philippine Space Policy. This internationally recognized certification validates that PhilSA’s management systems meet rigorous global standards, ensuring operational excellence across all functions―from program planning to implementation.

By aligning with ISO 9001:2015 standards, PhilSA enhances its capacity to deliver transparent, consistent, and citizen-centered services. This achievement not only reinforces public trust and strengthens institutional credibility but also supports the country’s progress in space technology, driving impacts in critical areas such as disaster management, environmental monitoring, national security, and sustainable development.

PhilSA’s adoption of a quality management system further advances its mission to promote and sustain a robust Philippine space ecosystem that adds and creates value in space for and from Filipinos and for the world.
