The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) was recognized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Environmental Management Bureau as a significant partner for environmental sustainability.

To expand the country’s air quality monitoring capabilities, the DENR-EMB received a Pandora spectrometer through PhilSA’s Pan-Asia Partnership for Geospatial Air Pollution Information and the Pandora Asia Network (PAPGAPI-PAN) Philippines or the PAPGAPI-PAN project, in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). In 2024, the Pandora spectrometer was installed at the Provincial Environmental Management Unit (PEMU) in Palawan, where it measures air quality within a 500-meter to 10-kilometer range during daylight hours. Their ground-based data will be integrated with observations from the Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS) aboard the Geo-KOMPSAT 2B satellite, which monitors air quality from a geostationary orbit.

PhilSA Space Information Infrastructure Bureau (SIIB) Director Ariel C. Blanco accepted the award during the ceremony held at Park Inn Hotel, Quezon City today, 07 February 2025.

As part of its Key Development Area (KDA) on hazard management and climate studies, PhilSA works with fellow government agencies to advance space science technologies and their applications. These efforts aim at developing innovative solutions that strengthen the country’s resilience to climate change.

PhilSA remains committed to utilizing #YamangKalawakan to cultivate and protect the country’s natural resources.
